Editorial Policy
Editorial Policy
1. Governance and Editorial Principles
The editorial policy of the European Journal of Formal Sciences and Engineering (EJFE) is guided by the ethical principles and publishing standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Accountability and impartiality: Editors are responsible for everything published in EJFE. Manuscripts are evaluated exclusively on scientific merit, relevance and methodological rigour, without bias regarding the authors' gender, race, ethnic origin, citizenship, religious beliefs or political philosophy.
- Editorial independence: Decisions to accept, revise, reject or retract manuscripts are made by the editors on the basis of independent peer-review reports. Commercial, institutional or personal interests do not influence editorial decisions.
- Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and do not disclose information about any submission to anyone other than the corresponding author, assigned reviewers and potential reviewers.
2. Aims and Scope
EJFE publishes original research in engineering and the formal, physical and chemical sciences and their applications. The full statement of aims and scope is on the About the Journal page.
3. Open Access, Copyright and Licensing
- Open access: All articles are immediately free to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to, without subscription fees or paywalls.
- Licence: Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Users may share and adapt the work for any purpose, provided appropriate credit is given. The licence is stated in the article metadata and on every published article (HTML and PDF).
- Copyright: Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.
- Article Processing Charge (APC): To cover peer-review management, DOI registration, typesetting and long-term archiving, an APC of GBP 950 applies to accepted manuscripts. The APC is invoiced only after formal acceptance; there are no submission or review fees, and payment does not guarantee publication.
4. Digital Preservation and Archiving
- Full-text articles and metadata are preserved in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), and every issue is stored on the publisher's servers in HTML and PDF.
- Self-archiving: Authors may deposit any version of their article (preprint, accepted manuscript or published version) in institutional or subject repositories and on personal websites.
- A DOI is registered with Crossref for each article.
5. Peer Review Summary
EJFE uses double-blind peer review: authors and reviewers do not know each other's identities. Reviewers are chosen for proven expertise in the manuscript's field and assess originality, technical soundness, methodology, reproducibility, literature and language. Editors decide between Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions and Reject. See the Peer Review Procedure.
6. Publication Ethics and Misconduct
- Plagiarism screening: Submissions undergo automated similarity screening before review. EJFE has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism, text recycling and redundant publication.
- Conflicts of interest: Authors, reviewers and editors must declare any financial or non-financial interest that could influence, or appear to influence, the work.
- Originality: Only original manuscripts that have not been published, in whole or in part, and are not under review elsewhere are considered.
- Research involving humans or animals: Such studies must state compliance with ethical standards, give ethics-committee approval details and confirm informed consent; personal identifying information must be removed.
- Misconduct: Allegations are investigated following COPE flowcharts and may lead to correction, retraction or notification of the authors' institution. See Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
7. Authorship
- Authorship is limited to individuals who made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, data analysis or drafting of the work; all authors approve the final version and share responsibility for its accuracy.
- Published articles are not withdrawn. Errors are handled by corrections (errata/corrigenda); serious problems by retraction, following COPE guidelines.
- Forced citations, unnecessary self-citation and references not discussed in the text are not acceptable.
8. Publication Schedule and Distribution
EJFE publishes three regular issues per year, dated 28 April, 28 August and 28 December. Articles are published online as open-access HTML and paginated PDF files on the journal website.
9. Advertising and Marketing
- EJFE does not accept commercial advertising or sponsorship on its website or in its issues.
- Any call-for-papers or direct marketing by the publisher is targeted, truthful and unobtrusive, and misleading impact statistics are not used.
