About the Journal

Aims and Scope

The European Journal of Formal Sciences and Engineering (EJFE), published by Mentisia, is an international, open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal for original research in engineering and the formal, physical and chemical sciences, and in their technological applications. Its aim is to give researchers and practitioners a rigorous, openly accessible venue for theory, modelling, experiment, simulation and well-documented applied studies, with a particular tradition of contributions from South-East Europe and the Mediterranean region and a welcome to authors from all over the world.

The journal publishes articles that make a clear technical, mathematical or analytical contribution. Recent issues cover the following areas (the list is indicative, not exhaustive):

  • Civil, transport and infrastructure engineering – structural and geotechnical analysis, seismic behaviour, concrete and construction materials, road and transport networks, infrastructure asset management, building information modelling (BIM), construction and project management.
  • Computing, data science and artificial intelligence – cryptography and network security, cybersecurity, machine learning, data mining, signal and biosignal processing, information systems and e-government, methods in computing.
  • Mathematics, statistics and modelling – differential and stochastic equations, graph theory, optimization, multi-criteria decision making, econometric and time-series forecasting, demographic and actuarial modelling, efficiency analysis, spatial statistics.
  • Chemistry and materials science – analytical and spectroscopic methods and their validation, biomaterials (e.g. chitosan, collagen), natural-product extraction and characterisation, alloys, coatings and composites, additive manufacturing and topology optimization.
  • Physics, energy, electrical and communication engineering – ultrafast, nuclear and optical physics, antennas and wireless communication, power electronics and renewable energy, energy efficiency, thermal and fluid engineering.
  • Environment, geospatial and sustainability engineering – GIS and remote sensing, land-use change, urban and environmental sustainability, resource recovery and the use of natural and marine biomass.
  • Quality, risk and industrial engineering – quality management (TQM, SPC), risk analysis (FMEA), lean manufacturing, occupational safety, systems dynamics and decision-support models.

Article types: original theoretical and empirical research papers, case studies, review articles and literature reviews, conceptual frameworks, analytical and simulation models, technical notes and book reviews.

Outside the scope: manuscripts whose main contribution is clinical, legal, educational or purely social-scientific, without an engineering, mathematical, computational or physical/chemical-science method at their core, are not considered. Applied studies in health, management, environment or education are welcome when the contribution is technical, quantitative or analytical.

Language and frequency: articles are published in English. EJFE appears three times a year (issues dated 28 April, 28 August and 28 December); accepted articles are assigned to the next open issue. All submitted manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

Our open-access journal applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) of £950 (GBP 950). This charge is crucial for maintaining the high-quality standards, integrity of our publications, and smooth running of our operations. The APC is utilized to cover various essential costs associated with the publication process including peer review management, journal production, online hosting, and archiving. Furthermore, it ensures the sustained, unrestricted access to our published articles, thereby aiding your research in reaching the broadest possible audience without any paywall constraints. This strategy, despite being an additional consideration for our authors, ultimately enhances the visibility and impact of your work, providing a greater advantage. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support in this endeavor.
