Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Publisher platform: Mentisia Research and Publishing. The European Journal of Formal Sciences and Engineering (EJFE) is an independent, peer-reviewed journal. EJFE follows the principles and flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Aims, Scope and Readership
EJFE publishes original research in engineering and the formal, physical and chemical sciences and their applications, for researchers, academics and practitioners worldwide. The areas covered are:
- Civil, transport and infrastructure engineering – structural and geotechnical analysis, seismic behaviour, concrete and construction materials, road and transport networks, infrastructure asset management, building information modelling (BIM), construction and project management.
- Computing, data science and artificial intelligence – cryptography and network security, cybersecurity, machine learning, data mining, signal and biosignal processing, information systems and e-government, methods in computing.
- Mathematics, statistics and modelling – differential and stochastic equations, graph theory, optimization, multi-criteria decision making, econometric and time-series forecasting, demographic and actuarial modelling, efficiency analysis, spatial statistics.
- Chemistry and materials science – analytical and spectroscopic methods and their validation, biomaterials (e.g. chitosan, collagen), natural-product extraction and characterisation, alloys, coatings and composites, additive manufacturing and topology optimization.
- Physics, energy, electrical and communication engineering – ultrafast, nuclear and optical physics, antennas and wireless communication, power electronics and renewable energy, energy efficiency, thermal and fluid engineering.
- Environment, geospatial and sustainability engineering – GIS and remote sensing, land-use change, urban and environmental sustainability, resource recovery and the use of natural and marine biomass.
- Quality, risk and industrial engineering – quality management (TQM, SPC), risk analysis (FMEA), lean manufacturing, occupational safety, systems dynamics and decision-support models.
The complete statement is on the About the Journal page.
2. Publisher and Editorial Responsibility
- EJFE is published by Mentisia Research and Publishing, which provides the publishing platform and the technical and operational workflow.
- Scientific decisions are made by the journal's editors on the basis of independent peer review, free of influence from the publisher or from commercial considerations.
3. Peer Review
All scientific submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent external experts. EJFE does not guarantee acceptance or accelerated review. Steps: submission and pre-screening (technical, ethical and similarity checks; an acknowledgement of receipt is issued, not an acceptance); external review; recommendation (accept, minor revision, major revision, reject); revision and final decision, taken impartially and without demographic, geographic or institutional bias. See the Peer Review Procedure.
4. Authorship and Manuscript Criteria
- Authorship: authors made significant contributions to the conception, design, research, data analysis, drafting or critical revision; all co-authors approve the final version before submission.
- Originality: only original manuscripts not published elsewhere, in whole or in part, are considered; multiple or redundant submission is not accepted.
- Citation integrity: excessive self-citation, forced citation and references not justified in the text are unacceptable.
- Manuscript order: title (with authors, affiliations and corresponding e-mail), abstract, main body, references; tables and figures are embedded in the text; essential data may be published as supplementary material without duplicating figures or tables.
5. Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies
- AI tools may be used only to improve readability, language or organisation; they never replace critical thinking, analysis or data interpretation.
- Authors remain accountable for all content, including AI-assisted output and citations.
- AI tools cannot be authors.
- Use in writing must be disclosed in a statement above the references. See the Generative AI Policy.
6. Research Misconduct and Ethical Oversight
- Plagiarism: zero tolerance; manuscripts are checked for similarity before review. Fabrication, falsification and plagiarism lead to rejection or retraction.
- Data and reproducibility: authors must be able to supply the data, code or calculations underlying their results on request, and must disclose conflicts of interest and funding.
- Human and animal research: approval from the competent institutional ethics board, informed consent (and guardian consent for minors) must be stated; personal identifiers are removed.
- Sex and gender: authors and editors apply sex and gender sensitivity where relevant.
7. Post-Publication Discussion, Complaints and Corrections
- Published articles are not withdrawn. Significant errors are corrected by a corrigendum/erratum, a separate notice linked to the original article.
- If misconduct, fabrication or fatal flaws invalidate the conclusions, the editors and publisher issue a retraction following COPE guidelines.
- Complaints and appeals against editorial decisions are investigated by the journal management following COPE flowcharts. They may be sent to [email protected].
8. Copyright, Licensing and Open Access
- EJFE is fully open access: articles are free to read, download, copy and distribute immediately.
- Articles are licensed under CC BY 4.0; the licence appears in the metadata and on every article.
- Authors retain copyright and grant EJFE the right of first publication; the copyright holder is named on every article.
- Authors may self-archive the published version in repositories and on personal websites.
9. Financial Policies
- APC: an Article Processing Charge of GBP 950 covers technical operations, copyediting, typesetting, metadata and infrastructure.
- No submission fees: there is no charge for submission or peer review. The APC is invoiced only after acceptance, and payment has no influence on editorial decisions or guarantee of publication.
10. Publishing Schedule, Access and Archiving
- Periodicity: three issues a year (28 April, 28 August, 28 December). Late submissions may be deferred to the next issue.
- Distribution: online as HTML and paginated PDF files.
- Preservation: articles are preserved in the PKP Preservation Network and on the publisher's servers; a DOI is registered with Crossref for each article.
11. Advertising and Direct Marketing
EJFE accepts no commercial advertising. Marketing activities by the publisher are truthful, targeted and unobtrusive, and misleading impact statistics and predatory practices are prohibited.
